Peggy Farmer, the “internationally known speaker, wellness consultant, author, and facilitator,” is in town reading this week, the Reader informs us. See, this is why the Reader’s list of readings, (and the Sun-Times’, and the Tribune’s, and New City’s) are less useful than they should be. To someone interested in literature, that is. I mean, who has time to wade through all the the other stuff?
However, New City and the Reader both get major Golden Rule points for comprehensiveness. And the Sun-Times too, not to mention extra points for distinguishing between readings and signings on its list. (Good man, that Kisor.) The Tribune’s list? Well, you just get the feeling that they’d rather be doing anything else.
Though I may award points there too, if they promise to NEVER, EVER run a review again like Richard Stern’s piece on Half a Life.
I know I’ve been to the Bridge Magazine website before, but I’ve never seen the physical pub and don’t know much about it. However, it looks worth picking up. It’s on my mind here because there’s a reading at Quimby’s on Monday night hosted by the mag’s fiction editor, Mike Newirth. Aleksandar Hemon’s going to be there, along with non-fiction writer Thomas Geoghegan. Maybe you should be there too.
Yes, Virginia, I do know that half of my “Upcoming Events” links are not working right now. The problem is with the U of C English events. I think they’re fiddling with their site. So I’m going to leave the links up for a few more days and hope they get it resolved . .
